The Coalition for Educational Development successfully conducted a youth advocacy workshop on Education in Emergencies (EiE). This workshop was held at the Grand Shasha Hotel, Ratnapura, on February 18, 2025. This project was funded by the Global Campaign for Education (GCE) and brought together 15 passionate youth participants to engage in discussions and advocacy efforts on ensuring education during emergencies.
As part of this event, the National Coordinator of CED facilitated a Youth Awareness Programme on Education in Emergencies (EiE) and INEE standards, where participants identified key components that authorities have to ensure in an emergency situation. Mr. Chaminda Piyasekara, the treasurer of CED, discussed the disaster-related challenges in their area and explored effective advocacy methods to address them. Through interactive activities conducted CED encouraged young leaders to take action in strengthening education resilience during crises. Mr. Nihal Premasiri from the People’s Participatory Foundation joins us as a resource person, sharing valuable insights on the importance of community-driven education initiatives.
Following the discussions, Rathnapura youth leaders developed new proposals to improve education in emergency situations. This proposal was handed over to the Provincial director of education In addition, the youth participants documented their insights and experiences in an article that they prepared and submitted to a magazine, further amplifying their voices and spreading awareness of the importance of education in emergencies some youth leaders developed FB post Campaign.
