Coalition of Educational Development conducted an awareness programme on
‘Enhancing participatory, planning and Results-Based Management (RBM) in the
education sector for the Education planning officers of the North Western province. This
programme was conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Provincial
Department of Education, North Western province. This programme was held on May
23rd, 2026, at the Bright Bravo Auditorium, Kurunagala.
In this Awareness programme, CED emphasizes the importance of
involvement/contribution of the civil society consultation in education policymaking,
planning, implementation, and monitoring. Followed by this session a capacity-building
session on Results-Based Management for Education planning was also conducted. A
total number of 38 people, including the Provincial Director of Education, the Deputy
Director of Education (Planning), the ADE/DDE Provincial, the Zonal Director of
Education, and Planning officers, participated in this event. In addition CED Chairman,
CED provincial coordinator and the representatives of the CED provincial member
organizations have also participated this event. This was good opportunity to CED
member organization to further strengthen the collaboration and build up the rapport
with the officials of provincial Ministry of education.
Session Highlights:
*The first session, conducted by Dr. Jayantha Balasooriya, Freelance Consultant,
focused on the importance of civil society participation in education policy-making,
planning, implementation, and monitoring, ensuring an inclusive and transparent
approach to educational development.
*The second session, conducted by Mrs. Nadeeka Dassanayaka, Director of Education
(Policy and Planning), Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational
Education, highlighted the transition from activity-based planning to results-based
planning. She outlined future strategies and the necessity of developing a
comprehensive action plan to enhance efficiency and accountability in the education
sector.
Mr. Sachitha N. Hewage, Chairman of CED, Mr. Mangala lal, Provincial coordinator and
also CED Staff participated in this event. We want to thank to all participants, speakers,
and stakeholders. Strengthening civil society involvement and adopting results-based
planning are key to ensuring a more effective and inclusive education system. Together,
we can drive meaningful change!
